The Mimo Yarn Co.

🙋🏽♀️ Hullo I am Molly, Owner & Founder of The Mimo Yarn Co.
I am the lady in charge of creating the fun and quirky names behind the brand and everything else.
(It's ain't easy, but hell it's fun!)
My Journey
I come from a very varied background with qualifications in catering, events management, massage & beauty. This list of treasures does not included all the other courses I seem to sign up to, that help broaden my horizons. I can now add Business Management to that list 🤭.

Knitting
I started knitting when I was 5 yo, my Nan taught me alongside my mum.
I picked up knitting again when I was at university, as I would finish my assignments and have nothing to do but watch TV or cook food for all my house mates. So I headed in to town, found myself a haberdashery shop and bought me some yarn and patterns and that's how the joy of knitting came back to me.

Learning to Dye
In 2018 I got the chance of a life time to visit & work in Canada 🇨🇦 with my boyfriend Miguel (the Mi to my Mo = Mimo). I thought to myself before we headed off on our new adventure that I would like to learn more about knitting and dyeing yarn. I came across a job by a company called 'Sweet Georgia Yarns', I had never heard of them before but really wanted the job. I became a studio assistant helping them prepare yarn to be dyed and also packing orders for customers. Later on while working there I got to learn a little more about dyeing and this is where my love of this craft started. Also Canada has great hand-dyed yarn that I had never seen before back in the UK (I'd been going to the wrong shows!).
The Birth of Mimo
We got back to the UK in May 2019 and I thought, I would really like to make a go of starting my own hand-dyed yarn hustle. So with a credit card and a lot of positive thoughts Mimo was born. Fast forward to NOW - 2020, I have moved from Etsy to my own website and getting the name of Mimo out there. What I love about this industry, is that we are all different and make something that we love. Mimo is about being bright, bold and colourful and basically in your face with happiness✨.
The Future
In the future I would love to host knitting retreats, workshops, real-life yarn shows, afternoon teas, collaborations with other like minded dyers and designers from around the world 🌎.
Working For Myself
I have always wanted to be my own boss and create the path I want, rather than be stuck unhappy. Mimo brings me joy and a purpose and without it this year I feel I would of been broken. So here's to MIMO 🍾.
